Barcelona’s free agent Ibrahim Afellay can solve Tottenham’s right wing woes

The Netherlands international is out of contract this summer and would be an exciting addition for Spurs.

Despite Mauricio Pochettino starting to compile a regular starting XI at Tottenham, the right wing berth continues to frustrate the White Hart Lane faithful.

With neither Andros Townsend nor Erik Lamela convincing fully this season, the Argentine trainer has chopped and changed between the two with limited success.

As such, a new arrival this summer to bolster this position could well be an option, with an ideal candidate available on a free transfer.

Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay’s deal with the Catalan club is set to end this summer and the Dutch winger will leave the Camp Nou to search for a new employer.

The Netherlands international has failed to hit the dizzying heights expected of him in Spain and has struggled to pin down a regular starting berth with the Blaugrana over his time at the club.

Injury concerns have blighted a promising career, but the wideman is getting back to somewhere near his best this season with Olympiakos.

This improved form in Greece has led to the 29-year-old being recalled to the Oranje national set-up as well.

With pace to burn, experience of playing at the highest level and a penetration that would make Spurs a more dangerous attacking side, Afellay looks like the ideal addition.

Available on a free transfer, the Dutchman will have no shortage of suitors this summer and as such Tottenham would be advised to move quickly to sign up this gifted winger.
