Aston Villa star Leandro Bacuna has piled the praise onto two of his teammates.
“Jores Okore had a tough time in his first season but has come back really strong this season,” he said.
“Ciaran Clark has been excellent when he's been in the side - very consistent and very commanding.”
Okore has shown superb resilience and mental strength in Villa’s defence for two main reasons.
He’s dealt with the mental blow which can be delivered by a bad injury and has also dealt with criticism at times this season in a very professional manner.
Clark was a little inconsistent last season, but new manager Tim Sherwood seems to have played on his talent, challenging him to grow stronger and dominate the backline since he came in as boss.
Clark has the ability to control and organise the backline effectively, ensuring that Villa stay a much more difficult side to break down and get the better of.
Next up for Villa is a match against Manchester United this weekend, where they are going to be under immense pressure with Louis van Gaal’s team chasing a Champions League place.
However, if the back four can show the determination and consistency, which Bacuna mentions then they can fight and potentially pick up a point or maybe even better.
