The Belgian attacker shushed the Arsenal fans in September.
One thing not appreciated is when those flames are stoked, especially by the players.
Back in September Arsenal and Tottenham played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at The Emirates. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the equaliser for the home side, after Nacer Chadli had opened the scoring for Tottenham in the 56th minute.
After scoring the goal he put his finger to his mouth, shushing the vociferous Arsenal home support.
Chadli was booked for the incident, but the Belgian has explained to FourFourTwo that he was shocked to receive a yellow:
“I was surprised to be booked for that, because it wasn’t as if I did something very bad! It was just a reaction and a celebration.
“For our fans it was very nice to see us beat [Arsenal] at home and go there and get a draw, and I feel we really deserved those four points. Of course, we want to finish ahead of them if we can, but it is not easy.”
Chadli is not the first to wind up fans in this fixture. When Arsenal defeated Spurs 1-0 at White Hart Lane last season Lukas Podolski and Wojciech Szczesny posed for a selfie with Arsenal fans in the away end. With that in mind, perhaps Chadli's signal to the Arsenal fans was justified.
The two do not meet again until next season, when once again the players will no doubt upset the fans. But that is football, right?
