Barkley came off the substitutes' bench to make a good impression in the second-half for Roy Hodgson's men.
The 21-year-old has endured a difficult season, but he reminded England and Everton fans of his talents yesterday, with all of his key attributes on display.
The youngster was more than willing to take on the Italy defence, and his direct approach helped England to get back into the game.
It was a showing that did his reputation no harm, and Collymore and Neville were among the pundits to give the attacking midfielder some credit.
Barkley completely trusted with ball in tight areas by his team mates. Just needs consistency in his game. @talkSPORT ON AIR LIVE— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) March 31, 2015
Barkley is class!!!— Philip Neville (@fizzer18) March 31, 2015
Barkley will be hoping that this performance can be the spark which inspires him to get back to top form, as he seems to have fallen short of his usual standards throughout the campaign so far.
The Everton academy graduate has managed just two goals in 31 appearances this term and he has been one of the major disappointments in Roberto Martinez's squad.
