The Barcelona striker is the top performing forward in the continent’s major five leagues, according to the International Centre for Sports Studies.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been the best performing attacking player in Europe’s five major top flights this year so far, according to an illustrious study.

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) have released their figures for 2015 to date, with goals, assists and other statistics compiled to reveal a list of the top forwards from across the continent.

Based on these various attributes, Messi was adjudged to have compiled 100 points, and leads the way ahead of Bundesliga pair Arjen Robben and Bas Dost.

Interestingly, Cristiano Ronaldo is way back in 29th on the list, with his Real Madrid counterparts Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema even further adrift of the Barcelona star.

Messi’s club team-mate Luis Suarez come in at fourth on the list, while Neymar is 12th.

The Argentine has scored an incredible 17 La Liga goals since the turn of the year and is spearheading the Camp Nou side’s push towards a potentially momentous treble this season.

With Ronaldo winning the Ballon d’Or for the last two consecutive years, it appears that Messi is a man with something to prove this season and is being widely recognised as the form player in world football in 2015.
