Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini explained to talkSPORT why he was surprised when his old side signed Michel Vorm from Swansea City last summer.
Vorm arrived at Tottenham after establishing himself as number one at the Liberty Stadium, in a deal which also included left-back Ben Davies.
Cudicini read into the transfer and has suggested that he thought it meant Tottenham were preparing for the departure of one of their best players.
“I was surprised at the beginning of the season when they brought in Michel Vorm because it looked like they were preparing for next season in case Lloris decided to go,” said the Italian.
“But he signed a new contract and hopefully he will stay with the club because he is a very important player.”
Lloris is arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and someone who has been a consistent performer at the back of Tottenham’s team.
It’s easy to see why he’s regularly linked with so many big teams all over Europe, but he’s one of Mauricio Pochettino’s key men and forms a crucial part of the spine running through Tottenham’s team.
The decisive factor on whether he pushes for an exit could be the Champions League, with Tottenham struggling to match the pace of the sides in the race for the top four.
However, as Cudicini suggests, Lloris showed a lot of commitment when he signed his new deal last summer and he’s not shown any desire to leave White Hart Lane throughout the season.
