Like most teams, they were hoping to avoid the so-called 'FIFA Virus' and welcome their stars back from international duty with a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, that's not the case, with two key men doubtful for the return of domestic activities.
Via an official announcement on the Real Madrid website, the club has released the medical report concerning central defender Pepe, who has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in his right thigh.
No recovery estimate was offered for Pepe, with the simple note that "his progress will be monitored" suggesting that he'll be touch and go ahead of Sunday's encounter.
Meanwhile, and having suffered a muscle strain while in action for Wales during their match against Israel, Gareth Bale is also a doubt for Real Madrid against Granada.
Since returning to Madrid, Bale has been doing gym work on Monday and Tuesday, unable to participate in group training, the digital edition of AS explained.
The Welshman did however train partially with the rest of the group on Wednesday, suggesting that he could still feature this weekend in La Liga.
