Why Newcastle United may keep eye on World Cup reunion

Malaga’s Juanmi Jimenez has emerged as a reported target for the Premier League outfit and is due to start for Spain against Holland this Tuesday.

A friendly encounter between old World Cup foes Spain and Holland could provide Newcastle United with the perfect opportunity to take a closer look at a striker being linked with a summer switch to St James’ Park.

The Daily Mail was among those to report on the Magpies’ rumoured interest in 21-year-old earlier this week, following the success of Ayoze Perez.

Signed from second-tier Spanish outfit Tenerife last term, the Toon newcomer has impressed in his debut campaign, having been thrown in at the deep-end following several injuries in the squad.

Ayoze has scored five goals in the Premier League so far this season finding the net against Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal among others as part of an all-action start to life in the north east.

Having struck gold with the €2 million signing, Newcastle could look to do the same with Juanmi Jimenez.

A product of the Malaga youth academy, the forward became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer after opening his account in a Copa del Rey match with Getafe back in 2010.

Juanmi was just 16 at the time, but the Spaniard has flourished in La Liga ever since, and has scored three times in the top-flight already this term.

Called up to La Roja’s squad as a replacement for Diego Costa, the youngster is due to start against Holland this Tuesday in a rematch of the famous World Cup clash between the pair from last year.

Impress against an out-of-sorts Oranje and Newcastle United could come calling.

Should Newcastle be scouting Juanmi?
