Wednesday star comments on change proposed by Chansiri

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday are going to install a new pitch before the start of next season.

Sheffield Wednesday utility man Kieran Lee has told the Sheffield Star that having a new pitch installed will help the side play more attractive football next season.

New Owls owner Delphon Chansiri has proposed to have a new £1 million pitch fitted at Hillsborough before next season and the impending change has been welcomed by Lee.

The 26-year-old believes that Wednesday will be able to play with a more expansive style once the pitch is more conducive to playing passing football on.

"It’s more enjoyable when you can get the ball down and play," he said. "It’s better for the fans and the football is of better quality.

“A smooth pitch would suit the way we want to play so it’s good news that we’re going to get one.”

The current playing surface is not particularly smooth, with the wear and tear of the season evident.

It has led to Wednesday playing with a more direct style this campaign, with Stuart Gray tending to utilise the aerial ability of Atdhe Nuhiu up front.

It has been an issue which some Wednesday supporters have criticised him over and it doesn't seem to have got the best out of the team in an attacking sense.

The Yorkshire outfit have scored 36 goals in their 39 Championship matches to date, which makes them the lowest scoring team of any outside the relegation zone.

It is an obvious area they will need to improve next season and with a more entertaining style, Gray will be hoping that the goals come more freely.
