Former Liverpool star Jason McAteer has suggested it's important his old team get a result against Arsenal this weekend.
Former Liverpool star Jason McAteer stressed to talkSPORT the importance of his side getting a result against Arsenal this weekend.
Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United before the international break has left Brendan Rodgers’ team chasing a five point gap as they look to secure a place in the top four by the end of the season.
“I think the result against United makes it really important that they beat Arsenal or at least get something at Arsenal,” said McAteer.
“Look at last season and they only lost two games under Wenger in their last ten, they are strong – you never know with Liverpool.”
Arsenal have the home advantage and are already in the top four so Liverpool will suggest that the Gunners are the team under pressure.
Liverpool can head into the game and play a care free brand of football as they go after an impressive result.
However, if they lose and go further behind in the race for the top four, it’s difficult to see them reacting over the rest of the season despite the fact United have difficult games coming up against sides ahead of them in the table.
Rodgers has had a long time to reflect on the performance against United and is up against it with several key players unavailable.
However, a top performance could give the Reds some momentum, which they can use to their advantage over the rest of the campaign.
