As reported by TMW, 21-year-old forward Juanmi Jimenez has been heavily linked with a summer transfer to Tyneside, with Newcastle said to be in ‘pole position’ to sign him.
Currently playing for La Liga side Malaga, Juanmi has netted seven goals in 24 games this season, helping the club into the upper echelons of the league table.
It has been his best season of goalscoring form, and his impressive performances have seen him called up by Vicente Del Bosque for Spain’s squad for the ongoing international break.
With Chelsea’s Diego Costa dropping out through injury, Juanmi took his place in the squad. He did not appear in the win over Ukraine, but could be set to win his debut this week.
His contract runs until 2018, so Malaga have no need to sell, and the Magpies may be forced to pay through above the odds for Spain’s next striking prospect if they genuinely are interested.
Should Newcastle sign Juanmi?
With a good run of goalscoring form behind him, Juanmi represents the consistent goalscorer that Newcastle seriously need to sign.
Ayoze Perez arrived from Spain last summer and has proven to be a huge success, and the Magpies could be hoping the 21-year-old forward is a successful long-term investment.
