ESPN has reported that Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne will make no decision over his future until at least the end of the season.
Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for the right-back, with Louis van Gaal reportedly keen for Clyne to join Luke Shaw in a move to Old Trafford.
Clyne will have just one year left to run on his contract after this season, with the Saints seemingly keen to get him tied down on a new deal as quickly as possible to avoid having to fend off bids for their star man in the summer.
Southampton have every chance of keeping Clyne beyond this season because he’s had a very good season with the club and the team are in a good position under Ronald Koeman.
The Saints are in control and the reason for the delay on Clyne’s part could be something as simple as him simply wanting to focus on his football until the end of the campaign.
Southampton may have left themselves with too much to do in relation to the top four, but there’s no reason they can’t secure Europa League football which will give Clyne a fresh challenge next season.
