Scotland survived a minor scare to defeat Gibraltar 6-1 at Hampden Park in their 2016 European Championships qualifier this afternoon.
Scotland took the lead with a Shaun Maloney penalty, before Lee Casciaro scored Gibraltar's first ever competitive goal just one minute later.
Steven Fletcher but Scotland back in front before another Maloney penalty made it 3-1, before Steven Naismith grabbed the fourth prior to half time.
Fletcher then added two more late goals to wrap up his hat-trick, meaning Scotland now sit level on points with Poland and Germany at the top of Group D in qualifying.
Fletcher, 28, had scored just one Scotland goal before today, and that came all the way back in 2009 against Iceland, as he endured something of an international goal drought.
It's the same story in domestic football for the former Wolves striker, who has gone 20 games without a goal for Sunderland, notching his last goal against Crystal Palace in November.
Sunderland fans took to Twitter after Fletcher's hat-trick against Gibraltar, with most of them hoping that he could take that scoring form into next weekend's big Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle United - including a message from former Black Cats star Darren Williams.
Here are some of the reactions from Sunderland fans on Twitter after Fletcher's hat-trick for Scotland against Gibraltar this evening.
But can he do it against Newcastle? Fletcher has many critics he needs to prove wrong. #SAFC— Crichton (@MattyCrichton) March 29, 2015
