Croatia maintained their chances of qualifying for the 2016 European Championship with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Norway at home on Saturday.
Niko Kovac’s side headed into the Euro 2016 Group H qualifier at Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb as favourites, and they secured the three points without facing too much of a problem.
Dinamo Zagreb-owned Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic put Croatia in the lead on the half-hour mark, and VfL Wolfsburg winger Ivan Perisic doubled the advantage in the opening minutes of the second half.
Croatia went 3-0 up in the 65th minute through Hamburg forward Ivica Olic, and Dynamo Moscow-owned Panathinaikos defender Gordon Schildenfeld added a fourth on 87 minute.
The home team were not finished, though, as in the fourth minute of injury time Panathinaikos star Danijel Pranjic scored their fifth goal of the evening, rendering Alexander Tettey’s strike for Norway on 80 minutes virtually meaningless.
The win means that Croatia are now at the top of the Group H standings with 13 points from five matches, just two points clear of Italy, who are second.
Meanwhile, Norway currently find themselves third in the group with nine points from five games.
