A former Liverpool great has had his say on the importance of the club's pre-season tour.
Rush was looking ahead to the Reds’ pre-season tour of Malaysia, reflecting on past visits and suggesting that the support the club have over there will ensure any new signings are fully aware of Liverpool’s global reach.
“Liverpool haven’t really got a major, famous face, unless they sign one in the summer,” Rush said.
“But whoever comes over is going to realise just how big a club Liverpool are.”
With Steven Gerrard moving on this summer and with a new striker likely to be high on the agenda, Liverpool could be busy in the transfer market. But if they do not qualify for next season’s Champions League it could be difficult attracting the talent they need to ensure that is just a one-year absence from Europe’s elite competition.
There is still plenty of football to be played this season so Liverpool have time to claw back the five-point gap between them and Manchester United. But whoever arrives this summer, Rush is right – following their pre-season exploits, they will know exactly what a great and much-followed club they have joined.
