It was match that saw some of the greatest players in the Premier League era rolling back the years – at least in some cases – as Liverpool’s All-stars took part in a charity match this weekend.
Teams led by Reds skipper Steven Gerrard and former centre-back Jamie Carragher played out a 2-2 draw, with Mario Balotelli and Didier Drogba putting the latter’s side 2-0 up only for the soon-to-depart midfielder to score twice from the penalty spot.
Carragher played the entire match at Anfield and it was the Sky pundit who conceded the second penalty after fouling Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan was back at Anfield following his summer switch to Barcelona and he looked to be enjoying himself at a ground he regularly shone on.
Carragher on the other hand has had better days, and it is probably best that he has long since hung up his boots.
One player who joked about the Liverpool defender’s performance was former Arsenal star Thierry Henry.
The Frenchman played for Gerrard’s side and in an interview with LFC TV after the final whistle, the ex-Gunner said of Carragher’s performance, “Shocking defending, absolutely shocking.”
A hugely entertaining match, plenty of goals, some returning heroes and some post-match banter; what more can Liverpool fans ask for?
