It was not long ago that Tottenham Hotspur waved goodbye to one of the world’s fastest footballers in the form of Gareth Bale, but could they be about to do the same again?
HITC’s Top Corner Twitter account has posted the above graphic that shows that while Bale is currently the world’s fastest player when running with the ball, Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon is fourth in that particular list.
The two wide-men are separated by Pachuca’s Jurgen Damm and Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia.
Lennon is currently on loan at Everton, having completed a temporary move to Goodison Park in January.
It remains to be seen if a permanent move will be completed in the summer, but the fact that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to keep the ineffective Andros Townsend ahead of Lennon speaks volumes.
Having sold Bale to Real, can Tottenham really afford to part with another of the world’s four fastest footballers with the ball at their feet?
Lennon has shown what he can do when played consistently, while Townsend has simply flattered to deceive, and this summer it would be wise if Pochettino reassesses who deserves a place in his match-day squad and who should be shown the door.
Lennon is too good – and too quick – to part with unless true quality reinforcements such as Memphis Depay are signed in his place.
