Two of Manchester United's most promising youngsters were involved in Academy action this weekend.
While his Belgian international teammates were preparing for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Cyprus this weekend, Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj was involved in a different kind of competition.
The 20-year-old has featured for just a single minute of Belgium’s qualifying campaign to date, so it was no surprise to see him omitted from the side for their latest fixtures. But that does not mean Januzaj did not get the chance to play football this weekend.
In fact he played his role in a 3-0 win against AS Monaco in the Nike Academy Cup along with some of his fellow United youngsters.
Tyler Blackett and Andreas Pereira were also involved, with the latter scoring the opening goal before Joe Rothwell netted a brace.
Summer signing Timothy Fosu-Mensah also got a run-out in the second half, which was the first-time the Dutch teenager had played alongside Januzaj in a competitive match since his arrival from Ajax.
The centre-back-cum-defensive midfielder is highly rated in his homeland and has the skill-set to become a huge star for United further down the line; the dominant force they have been crying out for.
United’s second match in the competition takes place on Sunday against German side Hertha Berlin.
