At the start of the current campaign, the Bosnia international put pen-to-paper on a new four-year contract - as reported on the club's official website - but his involvement in first-team affairs has deteriorated as the season has gone on.
Making just 10 league starts this campaign and dropping down the pecking following Wilfried Bony’s arrival in January, Dzeko’s future is uncertain and reports claim Juventus are willing to prise him away.
“Italian giants Juventus will launch a £15m bid for Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko this summer. Dzeko, 29, signed a new four year contract earlier this season but is still not guaranteed a first team place at City. That has alerted Juventus who regard Dzeko as their No1 striker target this summer,” the Mirror claim.
Since moving to the Etihad, the former Wolfsburg star has played a total of 180 games in all competitions, scoring 71 goals and helping the club win five trophies.
At 29 years of age, the striker still has a good few years left at the top of his game but his style of play is perhaps more suited to a slower game, rather than the fast-paced Premier League philosophy.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side undoubtedly need a shake-up in the summer following their poor return this season - and the possible sales of Dzeko and fellow striker Stefan Jovetic may free up the necessary cash to strengthen other areas without impeding Financial Fair Play rules.
