Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling put his much-publicised contract situation behind him with a super performance for England at Wembley yesterday.
The Three Lions ran out comfortable 4-0 winners over Lithuania, with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane grabbing the headlines following his goal-scoring introduction to senior international football.
The 21-year-old netted just 80 seconds after coming on, but over the 90 minutes it was Sterling who was the most impressive player as he ran the visitors’ backline ragged.

As per the table above, the flying winger was in outstanding form as he offered relentless attacking pressure and never allowed Lithuania a moment’s rest.
Aside from his goal, he took three shots, assisted Kane’s goal with a wonderful cross and made a telling 11 successful dribbles – more than any other player on the pitch by some distance.
The 20-year-old’s display prompts heavy praise, though it raises more questions over his club situation, as former Liverpool ace and renowned pundit Jamie Carragher remarked on Twitter in response:

The Sky Sports pundit’s ‘£200k a week now!!!!’ comment relates to the latest speculation suggesting that Sterling is holding out for a whopping new £150k a week contract with the Reds, as per the Daily Mail.
It is a situation that has dominated the headlines in recent weeks and one which remains unresolved as boss Brendan Rodgers told reporters that all contract talks will be put off until the summer.
With the Merseyside outfit in the midst of a crucial top-four battle, they will need their best players in top form and for Sterling to put aside the contract situation and repeat the kind of display he put in at Wembley.
