The Irishman was in the starting line-up for Southend United, but the game was rained off.

The emergency loan window closed earlier this week, with Nottingham Forest one of the many Championship teams to utilise the system.

They snapped up Chuba Akpom on loan from Arsenal and they also managed to send out one of their players on a loan deal.

Stephen McLaughlin left the club to join League Two side Southend United. The 24-year-old arrived at Forest from Derry City in 2014 but has struggled to play regular football since his move to England. The Irishman has spent subsequent spells on loan with the likes of Bristol City and Notts County.

Today however he was snapped in Southend colours, after being named in the starting line-up for the team against Bury in their League Two fixture this afternoon.

But it was not going to be a dream start for the lad.

His debut was cut short after just six minuted, after a massive rainstorm waterlogged the pitch at Gigg Lane.

Not an ideal start for McLaughlin's third loan spell away from the club.

He will need to impress during his time at Roots Hall, or his time at Forest might just be coming to an end.
