Pepe Reina: Ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez wants Premier League return

The Spanish goalkeeper has revealed that the Napoli boss has one eye on coming back to English football.

Pepe Reina has revealed that former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez would be interested in a return to the Premier League, especially because his family are still based in England.

The Spanish head coach was in charge at the Merseyside club for six years and led the Anfield club to a momentous Champions League triumph over AC Milan in Istanbul in 2005.

Currently in charge at Italian club Napoli, Benitez has also had a stint as interim boss at Chelsea in the past.

With the San Paolo outfit struggling to ensure Champions League qualification from Serie A this season, Benitez’s future with the club has been up for debate.

However, Reina has stated that he feels it is only a matter of time before his compatriot is back on British shores and in charge of a Premier League team.

“His idea is to be with his family and his family are in Liverpool right now and very happy so, if he gets the chance [to return to the Premier League], why not?” Reina told talkSPORT.

"He is happy at Napoli right now but family always comes first and it is a decision they have to make.

"As far as I know, he is happy in Napoli but is looking forward to coming back to England.”

Benitez has had a very successful career, winning two La Liga titles with Valencia and the Europa League with Chelsea.

However, his most prolonged period of achievement was at Anfield, with the Kop forever remembering the Spaniard for his role in making Liverpool European champions.
