John Hartson: Theo Walcott should be loyal to Arsenal

The former Gunners striker has stated that the North London club deserve loyalty given their commitment to the star.

Former Arsenal striker John Hartson has urged Theo Walcott to dispel rumours linking him with Liverpool and show some commitment to the Gunners cause.

The England international’s current deal at the Emirates Stadium is running down, with the North London club facing a struggle to get the winger to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

With Liverpool said to be eyeing up a switch for the flying attacker, Hartson has told Walcott that he must remember where his allegiances lie.

“He is on big money at Arsenal and they have looked after him,” the ex-Wales international told talkSPORT.

“When he was out for a long period injured, they looked after him and nurtured him back.

“I know there is not a lot of loyalty in football but sometimes it is nice when you see players give back to the club that have put them where they are.”

Walcott has been on the sidelines for the bulk of this season but has recently worked his way back to health.

However, the summer arrivals of the likes of Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez mean that the England star is no longer guaranteed a place in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI.

Walcott has only started three Premier League games this term and as such it remains to be seen where his future lies.

The sprightly attacker was the source of countless transfer rumours the last time his contract was running down, with the same expected to happen this summer.
