Taking a closer look at the Chelsea player most likely to be sold this summer.
Chelsea are closing in on a potential domestic double, with the Capital One Cup secured and the Premier League title tantalisingly close for their players and supporters alike.
Whatever happens between now and mid-May, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will already be looking ahead to which players he should sign in the summer, with some tough decisions also likely to be made about potential departures.
Of all Chelsea’s current first-team stars, there is one who looks more likely to leave than most, and that is goalkeeper Petr Cech.
At just 32, and with 491 appearances for Chelsea under his belt, he has time on his side and experience in abundance, meaning there are likely to be no shortage of suitors if he does leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
And that seems highly likely given the fact that Thibaut Courtois’s return from a prolonged loan spell in La Liga has limited Cech to just five league appearances all season – and just 14 in all competitions.
Cech is too good to sit on the bench and Mourinho will know that, no matter how much he may want the Czech Republic international to remain at least for the duration of his contract.
But the simple fact is, of all Chelsea’s current senior stars, Cech is the most likely to be sold, and that will be sad but necessary for the talented stopper who should not waste any more time playing a back-up role.
