It has been no great secret that former Tottenham Hotspur player Rafael Van der Vaart’s time at Hamburg looked like coming to an end.
But now the German side’s director of sport Dietmar Beiersdorfer has made it clear that wherever the 32-year-old will be playing next season, it will not be at his current side.
In comments published by the club’s official website and later published by London 24, Beiersdorfer said of Van der Vaart and his Hamburg teammate Marcell Jansen, “Rafael and Marcell know that we are not going to hold any talks with them over contract extensions.
“The players have assured us that ensuring Hamburg avoid relegation is the absolute priority and that they will put everything into this.”
The news has prompted London 24 to suggest that Premier League clubs could now be on alert regarding a player who featured 77 times for Tottenham, scoring 28 goals and providing 18 assists in that time.
It had been reported earlier this month by FulbolMLS.com that Van der Vaart was on his way to MLS side Sporting Kansas City but until that is confirmed, his future will remain one that generates much speculation.
While Tottenham are unlikely to want him back at this time, there will be a number of Premier League clubs who could benefit from a player who offers plenty on his day.
