Arsenal's Danny Welbeck shone for England, while Tottenham's Harry Kane stole the headlines.

Arsenal's Danny Welbeck produced a man-of-the-match performance at Wembley against Lithuania.

Yet the biggest cheer of the night among fans came as Tottenham striker Harry Kane headed in a winner only 80 seconds after coming on as a substitute.

Welbeck's display on another evening would have garnered more attention, but this was Kane's night according to the press.

The Sun led with the news of Kane's goal on their report, as did The Mirror and The Mail. Welbeck's display suddenly became a footnote.

Which with all due respect to debut hero Kane, is a disservice to the Arsenal striker, who needed a big performance to quell any doubters as to his selection ahead of Kane being in from the start.

He now has six goals for England in five European qualifying games - more than he has in the Premier League for Arsenal this season. It is a product of him being played as a central striker, and flourishing alongside old Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney.

Welbeck scored one, and had four efforts on target, also creating two chances. He was lively and his dribbling stretched the Lithuanian defence, helping England to a 4-0 victory. The only sour note to his night was the injury he picked up late on.

Kane's debut was short and sweet by comparison, but also one where he was able to show his predatory instincts.

With Daniel Sturridge missing through injury, England have real talent up front and competition for places, and it's for this reason Welbeck will not want his contribution to be forgotten.

Here's how Arsenal fans reacted to his display, and the media love-in over Kane...
