Millwall defender Sid Nelson has told News at Den that Jos Hooiveld has been a major help to him since moving on loan from Southampton.
Nelson and Hooiveld have formed a strong defensive partnership at Millwall and the 19-year-old has praised the Saints loanee for the impact that he has on his game.
Nelson stepped into the Millwall team as an inexperienced youngster and Hooiveld's experience has been crucial for him as he has learnt the ropes.
“Jos Hooiveld plays a big part in calming me down during games,” Nelson said. “Jos will pull me to one side and help me keep my cool – he tells me that I don’t have to win everything and that I should be focused on staying in shape.
“When a player with his experience gives you advice, you take it on board straight away. I can be a little bit rash sometimes but playing next to him is great."
Hooiveld has been on loan at Millwall since the start of the year and he has made a good impression at the Den, even if he hasn't changed the Lions' fortunes.
Millwall look in real danger of slipping into League One, but Hooiveld will be hoping that he can continue offering some pearls of wisdom to his younger teammates.
The Dutch defender appears to have little future at Southampton, after being deemed surplus to requirements by Ronald Koeman, and a summer move looks likely.
Whether that will be to Millwall remains to be seen, but it appears that a permanent move for Hooiveld would be welcomed by Nelson, who has felt the benefit of having someone with top-level experience alongside him already.
