Manchester United had their £25 million offer for Nicolas Otamendi rejected by the club this past January but according to Deporte Valenciano, the Red Devils will bump their offer up by £10 million to sign one of the highest-performing defenders in Europe.
Otamendi remained committed to Valencia this past January, despite being given the chance to earn more at Old Trafford, but the report goes on to say that Manchester United never gave up the pursuit and have begun negotiations with the player's agent, with the approval and blessing of manager Louis Van Gaal.
The addition of the 27-year-old is imperative to Louis Van Gaal's backline, as it will ease the pressure on goalkeeper David De Gea, who despite having a stellar season, as been relied upon far too heavily.
Valencia originally signed Otamendi on a €12 million deal from Porto on 5 February 2014, before immediately loaning him out to Atletico Mineiro for the remainder of the season.
Otamendi wrote himself into Valencia lore on 4 January when his game-winning header ended Real Madrid's record-breaking 22-game winning streak.
