Former Arsenal man Paul Merson says Aston Villa could struggle to get anything out of their next three games.
Merson feels Villa are facing a real fight to avoid the drop down to the Championship with their next three fixtures against Manchester United, QPR and Sherwood’s former club Tottenham Hotspur.
However, he does feel that there is one area of the team which could get the side out of trouble, putting some distance between themselves and the bottom three.
“They are in a battle and have some hard games coming up. They will be lucky if they get anything out of their next three games,” said Merson.
“They have to rely on nobody else winning at that time. I think they will be alright because of their forward line.”
Villa’s attack does have some superb players in their ranks with Christian Benteke someone who is going to be vital if he’s fit ahead of the United game.
Benteke carries that presence and has the ability to bully any defence whether Villa are playing with the ball on the deck or whether they are looking to hit their opponents over the top.
Villa also have a lot of pace in their team. They can utilise wide areas with players like Scott Sinclair and Gabriel Agbonlahor capable of intense bursts of pace, which can put their opposition onto the back foot.
Villa just have to fight as hard as they can and then rely on other results going their way and fortune working for them.
