Former Liverpool and Sunderland midfielder Jason McAteer has taken to social networking site Twitter to make his opinion about Harry Kane clear.
The former Republic of Ireland international believes that the Tottenham Hotspur striker is a very good player, but he does not rate him as highly as some others do.
McAteer claim that Kane is not at the level of former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler or Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
Got to admit I am a big fan of Kane but he's no @Robbie9Fowler or Alan Shearer don't really get the fuss— Jason MCATEER (@MCATEER4) March 27, 2015
McAteer is entitled to his opinion, of course, and many football followers will agree with him.
As good as Kane has been so far this campaign, this is his breakthrough season and he is 21 years of age. Many will question why it has taken him so long to burst onto the scene.
Until this season, the Tottenham youngster was not hitting the headlines, and perhaps comparing him to likes of Fowler and Shearer at this stage of his career is a bit too much.
However, there is no doubt that Kane is a quality player, and he showed just that on his debut for England on Friday evening.
The 21-year-old did not start the Euro 2016 Group E qualifier against Lithuania at London’s Wembley Stadium, but he came on as a substitute for Wayne Rooney in the 72nd minute.
Just 78 seconds into his Three Lions debut, Kane found the target, wrapping up a comprehensive 4-0 win for Roy Hodgson’s side.
