Villa are under a lot of pressure at the moment in terms of the Premier League, but the FA Cup represents a chance for the team to play with a bit of freedom and for the manager Tim Sherwood to make a few changes if he feels the need to do so.
“There have been some hard times for the club in the last few seasons, especially the fans,” he said.
“This will be a big lift and something for everyone to look forward to. Hopefully it will give us the confidence to prove we've got a great squad.”
Villa played well in the quarter-finals to secure their place at Wembley and their performance in the 2-0 win against West Brom showed the sort of attacking and free flowing football the side is capable of under Sherwood.
He’s been trying to get the side playing with more belief and confidence, which hasn’t always been possible because of the pressure created by the Premier League.
The build up to the semi-final should definitely work to the side’s and Sherwood’s advantage because there will be fierce competition in the side between players wanting a place in the team at England’s national stadium.
If that means the Premier League results continue to improve then it’s just another additional benefit.
