We take a look at what Manchester United’s squad could look like next season if no new signings are made.
Although Louis van Gaal is fully expected to bring in new faces this summer, we take a look at what the Manchester United squad could look like if no new faces were added this summer.
With only four players out of contract – James Wilson, Andreas Pereira, Ben Amos and Tom Cleverley – it seems the Red Devils may have to find buyers for the players on the fringes of the first team but we also look who could be promoted from the Under-21s.
Who could leave Manchester United this summer?
Ben Amos and Tom Cleverley, who are both out of contract at the end of the season, look destined to leave and Radamel Falcao’s loan deal looks unlikely to be extended into something more permanent.
Anders Lindegaard, Nick Powell, Will Keane, Nani, Javier Hernandez and Angelo Henriquez all seem surplus to requirements and could be shown the door. While Rafael da Silva could also join them after being overlooked on a number of occasions this season.
Who could be promoted to the first team next summer?
Although Jesse Lingard was supposed to be a first-team player this season, and probably would have been if not for injuries, he could come back into the picture following a loan spell with promotion-chasing Derby County.
Andreas Pereira, if he signs a new deal, could look to play a much bigger part next season after impressing for the Under-21s, as could youth team captain Tom Thorpe.
If there is an exodus of goalkeepers, Van Gaal may be able to bring in 18-year-old Vanja Milinkovic-Savic following a successful loan spell with Vojvodina after signing for United last season on a five-year deal.
How the squad could look:
Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Victor Valdes and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Defenders: Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair, Tom Thorpe, Tyler Blackett
Midfielders: Angel di Maria, Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj, Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard
Strikers: Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and James Wilson
