A surprise Nicklas Bendtner hat-trick saw Denmark beat the US national team 3-2 in Wednesday night’s friendly match in Aarhus, as Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Erisken captained Morten Olsen’s men on his 50th appearance.

Denmark were twice forced to come from behind on the evening, as Bendtner cancelled out Jozy Altidore’s 19th-minute opener just after the half-hour with an easy finish for his first goal to leave the scores level heading into the break.

The visitors took the lead again in the 67th-minute, however, when first-time skipper Michael Bradley unlocked Altidore with a fine ball over the top, which his Toronto FC teammate then laid off for Aron Johannsson to tuck home.

Denmark dominated from that point on, though, and got their second equaliser eight minutes from the end through another Bendtner strike, before the Arsenal reject completed the comeback and his hat-trick in added time after latching onto a long ball from Eriksen down the right wing.

It marked another late collapse for the US, as Jurgen Klinsmann’s side have now been outscored 11-1 in the second-half of their eight friendlies since the World Cup, with Bendtner’s three-goal haul making the outcome all the more embarrassing in the minds of fans.
