Slovenia international forward Robert Beric, who has been impressing in the Austrian Bundesliga this season, could be on his way to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United are being linked with a surprise summer move for Rapid Vienna striker Robert Beric, according to fresh speculation.
Previously on the books at Maribor, Beric moved to Sturm Graz in June 2013 and went on to score 10 goals in 35 league appearances for Die Schwoazn.
That was enough to catch the eye of Rapid Vienna, who recruited the 23-year-old forward just a year later.
Since then Beric has been nothing short of a revelation for the title-chasing club, scoring 17 goals in 26 league appearances to date.
Under contract at Rapid until 2018, it is thought that a bid of around £3 million could be enough to prise the Slovenian away from his current Austrian employers.
Newcastle could yet face competition for his services, however, with Beric’s impressive form likely to have caught the attention of several Bundesliga and Premier League sides.
Tottenham fans may also be familiar with Beric, who previously scored twice against the Lilywhites for NK Maribor in the Europa League a couple of seasons ago.
Capped four times by Slovenia to date, the striker has yet to find the net for the full national side but could be one to watch when they meet minnows San Marino this Friday.
Beric could also feature in the friendly scheduled against Qatar next week.
