Joe Cole makes a prediction over the future of Fabian Delph

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Aston Villa midfielder Joe Cole has explained how he sees Fabian Delph's immediate future developing.

Joe Cole has told the Aston Villa website that he expects teammate Fabian Delph to go up another level next season.

Cole appears confident that Villa are going to stay in the Premier League by the end of the season and has suggested that the captaincy has helped Delph develop into a more complete all round player.

“I'd imagine he'll go up another couple of levels in the next few years and he'll become one of England's top midfielders,” said Cole.

“It's great that he's been given the captaincy for the last few games - it's been excellent for him.”

“Next season, I think you'll see him go up another level.”

Delph is one of Tim Sherwood’s most important players for a variety of reasons and it will be interesting to see how the boss looks to develop him as a player in the summer.

It would be naïve of the manager to try making big changes at the moment because of the pressure the club is under as they try to put distance between themselves and the bottom three in the Premier League.

Delph is an important player in the team who opposition sides will try to keep out of every game he features in.

It’s important he works hard to reinvent himself through difficult periods to stay effective because he’s so integral to the way Villa play in terms of setting the tempo and controlling the pace of how Villa perform.

If he masters that challenge, there’s no reason he can’t progress as Cole suggests is possible.
