Sheffield Wednesday boss gives details of type of player he could sign today

Sheffield Wednesday are looking to add to their squad before the loan deadline.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray has told the Sheffield Star of his requirements for any player that he signs before today's loan deadline.

The Owls are looking to bring in a new striker to enhance their attacking threat, but Gray will only sign someone who he feels is better than what they already have.

Wednesday have struggled for goals this season, but already have Will Keane, Atdhe Nuhiu and Stevie May competing for places up front and Gray only wants to sign an upgrade on his current trio.

“We would like to get some players in,” he said. “We will be getting some answers on whether clubs are willing to let their players out.

"We are still looking to add to the forwards area. But, as I’ve said before, we only want players who are better than what we already have. Anyone else would defeat the object.”

The identity of who Wednesday are targeting is unknown, but it seems that they will have to be of a high standard.

They would be joining a buoyant Owls team, who have just beaten Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United 3-2, thanks to two late goals.

It was one of the better attacking performances that the side have put in this season and the hope will be that Gray's men will continue to improve with the pressure off.

Wednesday have little left to play for this season and Gray will already have one eye on the next campaign, where his side will be aiming to mount a promotion challenge.
