Former Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta has left Fulham to join former teammate Aitor Karanka at Middlesbrough on loan through the end of the season.
On Wednesday evening, Middlesbrough announced that the soon-to-be 30-year-old Venezuelan international would be joining the team until the end of the season from Championship rivals Fulham, with full-back James Husband moving in the other direction.
Aitor Karanka has bolstered his defence with the loan signing of Fulham centre-back Fernando Amorebieta, who will stay with Boro for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Boro full-back James Husband has switched to Craven Cottage in a similar loan deal until May.
Amorebieta recently returned to the Fulham squad at the beginning of march, after a knee injury left him sidelined for four months and the centre-back struggled to get back into the starting XI.
Meanwhile, Boro were desperate for reinforcements on their backline after the injuries to both Jonathan Woodgate and Daniel Ayala.
Amorebieta and Karanka played together during the 2005-06 season with Athletic Club Bilbao as the young centre-back was just beginning his professional career and the former Real Madrid assistant closing out his time in Spain before finishing his career with MLS side Colorado Rapids.
