The German international could be just what Everton need in midfield.
This season Everton have struggled to meet the lofty expectations they set themselves last term.
They limped out of both domestic cups and are at the wrong end of the Premier League table.
The only saving grace was the Europa League. But after the way they got pulverised by Dynamo Kiev that now has a sour taste.
This season has been a disaster for Everton and they need fresh legs in the team. One of the main problems has been age. Several of the Everton players are pushing the wrong side of 30 and a little bit more energy is needed across the team.
Gareth Barry is one fine example. He has his good games but he has struggled at times this season when the game speeds up.
Everton should seriously consider replacing him with a slightly quicker and more mobile update - Lewis Holtby.
The German international, who just so happens to be a massive Everton fan, is an outcast at Tottenham Hotspur.
He was loaned out to Fulham at the end of last season and has spent this term back in Germany with Hamburg SV. Despite reports to the contrary Holtby has not yet completed a permanent move to HSV and EVerton would be wise to swoop on the player.
He never got the chance to make the impression at Spurs during a time of upheaval at the club. At Everton he could truly become a Premier League hero.
