Newcastle United manager John Carver has provided a fitness update in relation to his squad via the Shields Gazette and it’s not good news for the club’s fans.
The Magpies boss has revealed that Mehdi Abeid is the only player closing in on a return to fitness as Newcastle prepare to take on Sunderland in the derby game once the international break has finished.
“There’s no sign of anyone coming back in the near future other than Mehdi,” said the boss.
Carver has been left in a situation where he’s patched up the back four due to injury and suspension, as the side battles for a place in the top half of the table over the rest of the season.
The team has suffered three back-to-back defeats since they defeated Aston Villa 1-0 but the situation should improve as more players return from injury.
Until then Carver has to rely on the leaders in the team and the experience of his older players to cover key positions, which should help reduce the impact of the current problems in key areas.
The side shouldn’t have any trouble getting up for their next game considering the emotion and passion of the occasion.
