Whoever is in charge of West Ham United next season may need to make a couple of new signings.
West Ham United face a challenge to improve and develop their current side looking ahead to next season.
Whether Sam Allardyce is the man in charge or not, the manager in control of the team needs to look at ways to develop the midfield and attack to make the Hammers a more imposing unit to play against.
Here’s what West Ham United’s front six could look like next season.
The central midfielders
Alex Song was a superb loan signing from Barcelona and he’s given the midfield a bit of grit and that extra quality in terms of protecting the defence and breaking things up.
It will be interesting to see if the Hammers can make the deal permanent because Song will have plenty of interested clubs after him.
Mark Noble recently signed a new deal and he will be a regular next season with someone like Kevin Nolan also providing plenty of experience through the middle of the team. Cheikh Kouyate is also an option who would allow Noble to push further forward.
A central midfielder is one signing Allardyce or a new manager could look to make to inject that little bit of extra creative magic into the team.
Stewart Downing is a no brainer down one side of the team, but who plays on the other side is difficult to predict.
Enner Valencia does have the ability to drift into wide areas and be effective alongside the full-back getting forward.
Matt Jarvis started against Sunderland, but whether he is the exciting winger who can really hurt opponents for West Ham is doubtful.
Expect a new winger to be another area the boss could look to improve. Munir has been linked with the Hammers by the Metro, who the boss could urge to play wider, with the Hammers also linked to Yevhen Konoplyanka by the Daily Mail last summer.
Andy Carroll provides an option as a target man and Diafra Sakho has done a very good job in the attack against a variety of opponents.
Nene recently came into the squad as cover, but it looks doubtful his deal will be extended and that will create the need for another attacking signing, with a new striker coming into the side to challenge the current players.
Prediction: Song, Noble, Kouyate, Downing, Konoplyanka, Sakho
