James Ward-Prowse has revealed who he idolised when growing up.
20-year old Ward-Prowse is one of the big hopes of England’s footballing future, and he revealed who he idolised when growing up in a question and answer session with the official England Twitter account.
A central midfielder, Ward-Prowse has already shown off his free-kick ability on many occasions, and he certainly possesses the same languid style as shown by David Beckham. The youngster has three goals in 11 games for the Three Lions’ Under-21 side, and he will surely wish to match Beckham’s 115-cap tally for the senior side.
The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend was often criticised for certain aspects of his game, and his early career antics off the field, but he did possess one of the finest set-piece abilities of a generation.
In his latter days, he also represented a perfect role model, and it is no surprise to see that Ward-Prowse - who would have been growing as a footballer during Beckham’s late England career - idolised the Three Lions legend.
He broke onto the scene in impressive style two years ago, and although his form this term has not been great, the youngster could feel aggrieved to have not worked his way into the senior England squad due to the number of players pulling out.
However, if he keeps developing in the style of Beckham, there is no doubt Ward-Prowse will have an illustrious career with the national team.
