Report suggests six problems for Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood will have to work his socks off to keep up to six players at the club.

The Birmingham Mail has reported that six Aston Villa players are set to see their contracts expire at the end of this season, which gives Tim Sherwood a variety of different problems.

The Villa boss has to decide where to place his efforts to get players tied down on new deals, keeping them at the club and maintaining the integrity of key positions in the team.

The players in question are Ron Vlaar, Darren Bent, Chris Herd, Enda Stevens, Lewis Kinsella and Graham Burke.

Certainly in the case of the first two players, the manager has to decide whether they are going to be part of his plans should Villa stay in the Premier League.

Vlaar is a key leader for the team and an important player in defence, while Bent can provide extra firepower up front, potentially getting the chance that Paul Lambert never gave to him.

Bent does have the characteristics of the sort of player Sherwood has already had a big impact on such as the way he transformed Emmanuel Adebayor at Tottenham and he was banging in goals for loan side Derby before getting injured.

Sherwood’s negotiation and persuasive skills are going to be fully tested over the next couple of months.
