Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez has told the Chronicle that he will fight to keep his place at St. James' Park.
The 31-year-old is determined not to give up, though, and admits that he is doing everything in his power to remain at Newcastle for the foreseeable future.
“I know the situation here (at Newcastle) isn’t the easiest but I’m going to fight to remain here," he explained. "Time will tell, what I can do and it’s in my control is to leave everything, to give the best of me and see how far I can get."
Gutierrez has been one of the good news stories of the season, as he has made a successful comeback from testicular cancer.
Newcastle supporters are clearly very fond of the Argentine, but the Magpies' board appear not to be letting sentiment get in the way of a footballing decision.
Gutierrez has made three appearances for Newcastle this season, but question marks still remain over whether he has the ability to be able to drive them on to the next level.
It means that his future remains firmly up in the air, but Gutierrez will be hoping to change opinions with his performances on the field between now and the end of the season.
