Leeds u-21 coach hails trio of 'excellent' performers in development side

Kalvin Phillips, Tyler Denton and Chris Dawson have all earned praise from Leeds United youth coach Jason Blunt.

Leeds United coach Jason Blunt has told the Yorkshire Evening Post of three performers who impressed him in the under-21's match against Brentford this week.

Leeds beat Brentford 2-1 thanks to late goals from Dario Del Fabro and Luke Parkin and it was a display which pleased Blunt.

The Whites' developments side's boss said the whole team played well, but he singled out Kalvin Phillips, Tyler Denton and Chris Dawson for special praise. 

“There were some excellent performances," he said. "I thought Kalvin was excellent and Tyler Denton came into it in the second half and Chrissie Dawson was excellent. But I thought it was great team performance."

Leeds development side have had a strong season, highlighting the quality that the Championship side have in their youth ranks.

Under Neil Redfearn, Leeds have promoted a number of academy graduates and the youngsters appear to have raised their game having seen some of their former teammates becoming first-team regulars.

The likes of Charlie Taylor, Sam Byram, Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt are all prominent members of Leeds' senior side nowadays and there will be a host of academy players hoping to follow in their footsteps.

If they keep earning rave reviews from Blunt then their chances can only be boosted, and his quotes should give the trio of prospects confidence for the future.
