Former Celtic defender Adam Virgo has taken to social networking site Twitter to hit out at the omission of Jack Harper from the Scotland Under-19 squad.
The youngster, who was born in Malaga to Scottish parents, will miss out on matches against Austria, Croatia and Italy in Vienna in the Under-21 European Championship qualification campaign.
According to BBC Sport, Scotland U19 coach Ricky Sbragia has left out the youngster due to his size, and has been quoted as saying that Harper is “a luxury player”.
Harper, who signed a five-year contract with Spanish giants Madrid in 2012, 6ft 1in but slim.
Virgo has now taken to Twitter to mock Sbragia’s decision to leave out the highly-rated forward.
Have I just seen a Scottish boy Jack Harper couldn't play for Scotland cos he is too small. Oh and he plays at Real Madrid!! Come on!!!— Adam Virgo (@Adamvirgs19) March 25, 2015
The decision not to include Harper in the squad due to his size is indeed strange, especially when one considers that he is over six feet tall.
Moreover, Harper has played for Madrid in the UEFA Youth League - the Champions League for Under-20s - this season, scoring three goals in the process.
