The Red Devils boss said: “Christian does not suffer more and he also takes no medication anymore. His recovery is proceeding as planned.”
This is great news for Aston Villa, with Benteke’s goalscoring abilities central to any survival hopes that they have. The 24-year-old only has five goals in 21 Premier League fixtures this term, but he has been in a good vein of form in recent weeks, and a long-term injury - as was first rumoured - would have done much harm to Villa’s top flight hopes.
He was pictured in training with the senior Belgium squad earlier today, as per Sky Sports, and although he only took part in light group work, Wilmots’ confirmation that the forward will be fit for Belgium’s upcoming qualifiers, and Villa’s promotion fight and FA Cup run is welcome news.
The striker will be vital in providing a goal threat for Tim Sherwood’s men as they fight on two fronts for the rest of the season, and the head coach will probably be hoping that Benteke is left out of Belgium’s upcoming fixtures to ensure his full match fitness.
