“We are getting calls regarding players from Inter Milan and Benfica because they are our market now,” he said.
With talks ongoing between Palace and the Portuguese club, we take a look at three players that the Eagles could look to sign.
A Brazilian centre-half, Jardel represents the top-level defender with a goalscoring threat that Pardew so craves. He plays entirely into Palace’s style of football, and, as a towering presence in both boxes, has scored three goals for Benfica this season. Securing a work permit could be an issue, as he has never been capped by Brazil, but Jardel is a solid centre-back with many years left of top-flight football.
A once-capped Dutch international, John represents many of the traits that Palace will look for in their transfer targets. At 22-years-old he is young, and as a winger he fulfils the need for wide-men with pace and style that the Eagles use. He has three goals and five assists in 21 games this season, showing that he is good at both scoring and creating, and stocking up with solid wingers with potential could be Palace’s method in the summer.
The most unlikely player to arrive, but securing Talisca would certainly be a coup for the London club. Linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea by Sky Sports, Palace could make a real statement of intent if they signed the midfielder. An attacking presence, he would provide a new sense of drive in the middle of the park, and the 21-year-old would be a signal by the Palace board that they mean business in the transfer market.
