Celtic manager Ronny Deila could have plenty of work to do in the transfer market with regards to his defence.
Celtic already have one trophy in the bank and they are hunting two more with opportunities for more silverware in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.
One of the key ways that Ronny Deila can achieve that is with a rock solid defence and it’s one area of the team he will already have thoughts about looking ahead to next season.
There are questions related to the back four the Norwegian has to deal with as he assesses how to move the team forward.
If Craig Gordon stays fit and stays in form, this position will be his for the time he’s at the club.
He’s a very reliable player who has done well to perform consistently to help fill the void, which was created when Fraser Forster left for Southampton.
The centre backs
Virgil van Dijk takes care of one position, but Deila faces a challenge in who plays next to him with Jason Denayer set to go back to parent club Manchester City.
There are other options across the backline for Celtic but a fresh and new centre back if the Bhoys can’t do a deal for Denayer is something that Deila will have to look at,
In terms of the full-backs there isn’t too much wrong at the moment for Deila, with continuity likely these areas, with the potential to bring back one of Mikael Lustig or Adam Matthews with Efe Ambrose moving into a central position.
However, if that’s not something the boss wants to consider, Ambrose can continue on the right hand side with Emilio Izaguirre likely to be playing for a new long term contract at left-back, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the 2017 season.
Prediction: Gordon, Lustig, van Dijk, a new centre back, Izagiurre
