Aston Villa may have lost 1-0 to Swansea City on Saturday, but Federico Fernandez's comments to the Welsh club's official site are encouraging for Villa supporters.
Villa were not at their best at the weekend, but Fernandez still admits that they were a tough side to play against and he felt striker Christian Benteke was a threat.
Although Swansea managed to deal with Benteke well, with Ashley Williams excelling, Fernandez still managed to compliment Villa when reflecting on the match earlier today.
"Aston Villa are a difficult team to play against," the Argentine defender admitted. "They are very physical, with players like (Christian) Benteke up front, but Ash (Williams) put in a great performance alongside me once again."
The fact that Villa are now causing teams difficulties despite not playing at their best should be cause for optimism for Villa fans.
The Claret and Blue have been too easy to play against for much of the season so far, but they have improved under Tim Sherwood and now pose much more of an attacking threat.
Although that wasn't on full display against Swansea, they still appear in a much better place than they were under Paul Lambert's stewardship.
Villa are now just three points above the drop zone, with Manchester United next up on their fixture list, but if they keep putting in high quality performances they should have enough quality to retain their Premier League status.
