Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen has taken to Twitter to congratulate five of his teammates for making it into the England squad for their matches against Italy and Lithuania.
Ryan Mason was a late addition after Adam Lallana was forced to withdraw through injury, meaning Mauricio Pochettino’s side now have five representatives in Roy Hodgson’s team.
It is testament to Mason’s progress this season that he has received his first call-up, along with free-scoring striker Harry Kane. But the midfielder may find it harder to force his way into the starting line-up than his teammate, he looks highly likely to make his senior international debut in the coming days.
Along with Mason and Kane, Andros Townsend, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker have also been included.
Vertonghen took to Twitter to write a simple, “Well done guys,” along with a picture of all five men featuring for Tottenham.
Spurs won 4-3 against Leicester City last time out, and when they return to domestic matters they will be hoping to solidify a defence that has shipped six goals in just two games.
